About Breast Revision
A breast revision is a surgical procedure that aims to improve the results of a previous breast procedure. (1) Breast enhancement procedures are incredibly popular worldwide; however, some patients find that they have to seek revision due to complications from implants, natural changes over time, or a shift in personal aesthetic preferences. If any of these apply to you, Dr. Roesner can perform a breast revision procedure to create lasting improvements in your comfort, contours, and confidence.
Benefits
Breast revision offers several benefits, including:
- Restored Definition: This procedure improves the sculpt and appearance of your breasts, restoring a more youthful-looking chest.
- Implant Replacement: Dr. Roesner can replace your breast implants with newer and safer implants.
- Corrected Asymmetry: A breast revision can address uneven breasts, resulting in a more balanced and proportionate appearance.
- Elevated Confidence: Addressing any comfort-related or aesthetic concerns relating to your breasts may improve your body positivity and lead to a greater sense of confidence.
Candidates
This procedure typically benefits women experiencing complications or discomfort from a previous breast procedure, as well as dissatisfaction with their results. Those who are interested in upgrading their breast implants to a newer pair can also benefit from this procedure.
Individuals seeking breast revision should be in good overall health and maintain realistic expectations regarding the results of their procedure. Dr. Roesner will finalize each patient’s candidacy during their consultation.
Personal Consultation
During your consultation, Dr. Roesner will meet with you individually to determine whether a breast revision procedure is right for you. He will ask about your medical history and previous breast procedures, as well as your concerns and revision goals. He also performs a physical evaluation to assess your breasts.
Dr. Roesner will use this information to create your surgical plan, selecting the most effective surgical techniques for your case. He may recommend additional procedures to enhance your results, if applicable. This consultation serves as a great opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

Preparation
After deciding to proceed with your breast revision, we will give you a set of pre-operative instructions to help you prepare. These instructions may vary depending on the corrections Dr. Roesner performs. In any case, following them closely will help facilitate a successful procedure and smooth recovery.
Dr. Roesner may ask that you stop taking certain medications or supplements that contain blood-thinning properties (with approval from your primary care physician). If applicable, you will also need to cease nicotine and alcohol consumption for a designated period before and after your procedure.
You will need to dedicate ample time away from your career and other commitments so that you can focus on recovery. Because anesthesia is used for this procedure, it is also important that you arrange transportation home ahead of time. In some cases, Dr. Roesner may ask that you undergo certain lab tests or imaging to ensure you are physically fit for your procedure.
Procedure
The details of your procedure may vary depending on the corrections Dr. Roesner makes. Dr. Roesner performs this procedure while the patient is under general anesthesia to ensure comfort.
If Dr. Roesner is addressing your breast implants, he will make the incisions in the same placements as your previous procedure to avoid creating new scars. He may remove scarred breast tissue, replace/remove breast implants, or make other adjustments. (2)
In addition to addressing implants, Dr. Roesner can also remove excess sagging tissue, reshape/reposition the nipple-areolar complex, and improve underlying support. After making the necessary corrections, Dr. Roesner will close each incision.
Recovery
After your breast revision, it is normal to experience swelling, bruising, or discomfort in the treated areas. These effects are temporary and will gradually dissipate on their own, but Dr. Roesner may prescribe medications to reduce discomfort as you rest. Most patients can return to work after resting for approximately one to two weeks, but will need to avoid strenuous or high-impact activities until Dr. Roesner approves.
Dr. Roesner may ask that you wear a supportive bra throughout your recovery, which will minimize swelling and protect the breasts.
Before your procedure, we will give you detailed post-operative instructions to guide your rest, incision care, and any necessary activity restrictions. We recommend that you follow each step closely, as your recovery directly influences your final results. Dr. Roesner and his team will remain available to support you and answer any questions or concerns throughout your healing process.
Results
You may notice improvements in the appearance of your breasts immediately after your procedure, but the full, refined results of your breast revision will become more apparent as residual swelling subsides. You will notice improved breast shape, symmetry, and fullness, along with a more defined and flattering overall contour.
Breast revision procedures can provide lasting results, and you can help preserve them by maintaining healthy habits and keeping your weight stable.

FAQ
How will I know if I need a breast revision?
If you are experiencing discomfort, changes in your breasts, aesthetic concerns, or implant-related concerns, you may want to consider attending a consultation for a potential breast revision.
If I am unhappy with my current breast implants, can I remove or replace them during a breast revision?
Yes. During a breast revision, Dr. Roesner can either remove your implants or replace them, depending on your goals. If you choose to replace them, you will be able to collaborate with Dr. Roesner to select new implants that better align with your aesthetic preferences and desired outcome.
Is breast revision more complex than the initial augmentation?
Yes. Breast revision is typically more complex than a primary augmentation because it often involves correcting issues related to scar tissue, stretched skin, or changes caused by previous surgery. Dr. Roesner will tailor your procedure to address these concerns carefully and safely.
How long will my breast revision recovery take?
Your recovery will vary depending on the details of your surgical plan, with most patients returning to their jobs after resting for one to two weeks. You can expect gradual improvements in comfort during this time, with most residual swelling resolving over the following months. You should refrain from participating in more strenuous activities until Dr. Roesner approves.
Can I combine my breast revision with another cosmetic surgical procedure?
Yes, you can combine your revision procedure with another to achieve more comprehensive results or address several concerns in one sitting. Dr. Roesner can help you explore your options during your consultation.
Will my breast revision results look natural?
Dr. Roesner designs each breast revision to create balanced, natural-looking results that complement your body. By addressing concerns such as implant position, shape irregularities, or changes over time, he can help restore a look and feel that aligns with your goals while maintaining a natural aesthetic.
How long will my breast revision results last?
Breast revision results can be long-lasting, but they may change over time due to factors like aging, weight fluctuations, or hormonal changes. Maintaining a stable weight and healthy lifestyle can help preserve your results for many years.
