A back lift is a body-contouring procedure that can remove sagging skin from the upper and lower back, creating a smoother, more defined appearance.

It is common for patients to accumulate excess skin and fat along their back over time, creating the appearance of bulges, also known as ‘back rolls.’ (1) These concerns are often difficult to address through traditional weight loss means, causing frustration. Candidates for the Back Lift

You may be a suitable candidate for a back lift if you have noticed hanging or sagging skin developing along your upper, middle, or lower back that will not respond to lifestyle changes. This procedure can effectively address back folds and back rolls, as well as excess skin after rapid weight loss.

If you are interested in this procedure, you should be in good general health and be at a stable and maintainable healthy weight. You should be nonsmoking or willing to quit for an extended period of time. It is also important that you hold realistic expectations regarding your results. Dr. Roesner will assess your candidacy during your consultation.

Preparation

Once you schedule your procedure, you will need to take several preparatory steps to ensure you are ready. To help you, Dr. Roesner will give you a set of detailed instructions. He may direct you to:

  • Manage Certain Medications: Discontinue taking any medications or supplements that may thin your blood.
  • Secure Transportation: Prepare transportation to and from your procedure. Your driver should be someone you trust, like a family member or friend. We advise against using rideshare services for your safety.
  • Prepare For Your Recovery: Arrange time away from your responsibilities to allow your body to heal.
  • Pick Up Your Prescriptions: Fill any prescriptions you may need throughout your recovery so they are readily available.
  • Stop Smoking: Stop any nicotine use several weeks before your procedure, and maintain your cessation throughout your recovery.
  • Refrain from Alcohol: Avoid consuming any alcohol in the days before and after your appointment.

Back Lift Procedure

Dr. Roesner performs each back lift at his surgical center on an outpatient basis. The duration of your procedure may vary, but you can expect it to last between two and five hours. Your procedure begins with anesthesia administration, depending on the extent of your procedure.

Dr. Roesner will then place an incision either along your bra line or lower back, depending on whether he is addressing your upper back, lower back, or both. He will then begin to remove excess skin and tissue in the treatment area to emphasize the definition of your natural figure. If there is a significant amount of fat throughout the treatment area, he may also perform liposuction. Liposuction will be performed before the skin removal portion of the procedure.

Recovery

After your back lift procedure, you will need to take time away from work and your other responsibilities to focus on resting. You may return to light activities and desk work after resting for approximately two to three weeks, depending on the physical demands of your job. However, you will need to refrain from engaging in any more strenuous activities until Dr. Roesner instructs you otherwise.

You may experience some initial swelling, bruising, or tenderness around the treated areas. These effects are transient and will subside on their own throughout your recovery, but you may manage them with medications and plenty of rest. Dr. Roesner may also ask you to attend follow-up appointments as you heal to ensure your results develop as expected. He will provide you with any additional instructions during your consultation.

You will attend follow-up appointments at our office so that Dr. Roesner can check on your progress as well.

Back Lift Results

You will begin to notice the results of your back lift become more apparent as any residual swelling subsides and your tissues begin to settle. Your exact results will vary depending on your personal goals, but you can expect a more defined and slender appearance across your upper, middle, and lower back, as well as smoother, flatter, and tighter skin. You may also notice that certain clothing feels more comfortable and that your overall personal comfort has improved.

The results of a back lift are long-lasting, as Dr. Roesner permanently removes excess skin. However, you will need to maintain a stable weight to preserve the results of your treatment.

Cost of Back Lifts in Boulder, CO
