About Facial Fillers

Facial fillers are non-surgical treatments that can elevate and refine your appearance. Each of our fillers is FDA-approved for certain indications. Facial fillers are one of the most widely administered minimally invasive cosmetic treatments, with American specialists administering more than 6.26 million filler treatments in 2024 alone. (2)

Types of Facial Filler Ingredients

  • Hyaluronic Acid (HA): Hyaluronic acid is a deeply hydrating substance that is naturally occurring in the body. When used for dermal fillers, HA binds to water molecules in the skin for immediate volume.
  • Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA): Calcium hydroxylapatite fillers are known for their long-lasting effects. They work by stimulating collagen production over time, but also provide immediate structural support. (3)
  • Poly-L-Lactic Acid (PLLA): Poly-L-lactic acid is another long-lasting biostimulatory filler. PLLA promotes the production of collagen, leading to gradual improvements in the volume and appearance of your skin.
  • Autologous Fat: Autologous fat is fat that comes from your own body. After being harvested by your surgeon, it goes through a purification process, and then it is reinjected into the targeted area to enhance volume. Autologous fat offers essentially permanent results, and many doctors consider it to be an ideal facial filler due to its availability and biocompatibility. (4)

Available Fillers

Juvéderm®

Juvéderm® is a portfolio of different HA-based facial fillers that can address a number of different facial regions. Each Juvéderm® product has varying viscosities and particle sizes to address areas such as the cheeks, nasolabial folds, glabellar lines, vertical lip lines, and more. Juvéderm® fillers each vary in longevity, with most formulas offering results that last between 6 and 12 months. (1)

Radiesse®

Radiesse® is a CaHA-based dermal filler that can effectively recontour the cheekbones, jawline, and hands. Radiesse® offers longer-lasting results compared to many other fillers, with many patients experiencing results that can last between 12 and 18 months. This filler is biostimulatory and can enhance the production of collagen, leading to gradual improvements in the health, appearance, and firmness of your skin.

Belotero®

Belotero® is an HA-based dermal filler that is smoother and lighter than other fillers. It is ideal for delicate areas and superficial lines, such as vertical lip lines and fine lines around the mouth. This filler is often recommended for anyone with minimal concerns or those interested in “prejuvenation.”

Sculptra®

Sculptra®, while technically not considered a filler, is an injectable PLLA treatment that can add substantial volume to the face. This injectable stimulates the production of collagen when administered, leading to improvements in the firmness, health, and overall appearance of the treated area. Sculptra® produces longer-lasting results compared to many injectables, with patients experiencing their effects for up to two years or longer. (3)

Candidates

Suitable candidates for facial fillers include most patients interested in reducing visible signs of aging around the face, such as deep creases, fine lines, and wrinkles. Fillers are also effective for addressing age-related volume loss around the face, especially in the temples, cheeks, or under-eye area. Those interested in augmenting the shape and volume of their lips may also benefit from this treatment. Fillers are often a great alternative to more invasive procedures requiring incisions or skin removal.

If you are interested in receiving one of our facial fillers, you should be in good general health and hold realistic expectations regarding your results. Our team of nurse injectors will finalize your candidacy during your consultation.

Preparation

Once you schedule your treatment, your nurse injector will give you a set of instructions to help you prepare. Because fillers require essentially no downtime and are very quick, instructions are straightforward, but we still recommend you keep them in mind before your appointment. Your nurse injector may instruct you to:

  • Modify your skincare routine to avoid harsh or irritating skincare products. These can include retinoids, retinols, peels, or exfoliants.
  • Avoid direct or excessive sun exposure and wear sunscreen when leaving the house.
  • Avoid any alcohol for several days before and after your appointment to minimize any potential swelling.
  • Refrain from any nicotine use before and after your treatment, as this may increase your risk of bleeding.

By properly preparing for your facial filler appointment, you can ensure a smooth procedure and the best possible results.

After Your Treatment

One of the many benefits of facial fillers is that they come with essentially no downtime. After your injections, you may experience some mild swelling or tenderness at the injection sites. These effects will subside shortly on their own, and you may also manage them using a cold compress or the recommended over-the-counter medications. You will be able to return to most of your daily activities immediately after your injections, but we typically recommend refraining from more strenuous or physically demanding activities for about 24-48 hours. You should also avoid touching, massaging, or putting any pressure on the treated areas during this time. Your nurse injector will provide you with more detailed information regarding post-treatment considerations during your personal consultation.

Results

Our patients are often very happy with the results from their facial filler. The onset time of the results of your filler will vary depending on the type you received, as well as the regions it was injected into. Patients who received collagen-stimulating fillers will experience a more gradual development of their results compared to those who received HA or autologous fat injections—these types of fillers offer immediately noticeable effects.

After the results of your filler emerge, you will be able to enjoy a more youthful look as wrinkles are softened and volume is improved. Patients often report feeling more confident about their appearance, with results that last for months at a time.

Cost of Facial Fillers in Boulder, CO

The cost of your facial filler treatment will vary depending on the type of filler the nurse injector administered, the amount of filler they used, the injection techniques they performed, and several other factors. Once your nurse injector has created your treatment plan, they will give you a cost estimate. We also offer financing options for those who qualify.

Can my nurse injector combine my facial fillers with another treatment?

Yes, your nurse injector can combine your fillers with another treatment for further rejuvenation. We recommend scheduling a consultation to discuss your aesthetic goals and learn more about the other treatments you may be eligible for.
