Microdermabrasion in Boulder

And Dermaplaning

Microdermabrasion

DiamondTome™ Skin Resurfacing System

The original medical grade, crystal-free treatment that can reduce the effects of aging on your skin. Using the patented DiamondTome™ wand the treatment is a safe, clinically proven therapeutic approach to superior skin care results.

Skin resurfacing is an exfoliation technique for removing the topmost layer of skin, leaving it more supple and vibrant. The DiamondTome™ Skin Resurfacing System removes this layer by gently exfoliating the skin with natural diamond chips bonded to the tip of the wand, while vacuuming the exfoliated skin cells away in a controlled manner. Removing this outer layer leaves a smoother texture and promotes the growth of healthy new skin. Unlike other exfoliation treatments, the DiamondTome™ Skin Resurfacing System uses no loose abrasives to contaminate you or the environment.

Skin resurfacing also stimulates the vascular circulation to the surface of the skin resulting in a healthier and firmer appearance. Microdermabrasion treatments can be performed on the face, neck, chest, hands, back, legs, elbows, and feet. It can be used alone, or in combination with other treatments. A licensed nurse, aesthetician or physician administers the treatments.

The DiamondTome™ Skin Resurfacing treatment is non-invasive, pain-free and requires no down time. To achieve maximum results, several treatments are recommended for a healthier, younger looking skin.

Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning – How it works

Dermaplaning is an excellent treatment for the face – especially when performed monthly. This procedure exfoliates the top layer of skin with a specialized surgical blade. The dermaplane process removes dead skin cells, peach fuzz, and stimulates surface of the skin. There is no “down time” involved, and you may return to your busy schedule after. Patients who routinely receive Dermaplane treatments comment on the smoothness of their complexion and its “baby skin like quality”. Dermaplane patients see an immediate improvement to the radiance of their skin tone. As an added benefit, routine dermaplaning can help reduce the visibility of acne scarring and fine lines, as well as do away with extraneous vellous (translucent) hairs on the face – leaving your skin silky smooth.

cause dermaplaning is a quick procedure with few to no adverse effects, it has quickly gained popularity. This is also a favorite with pregnant women who would like an exfoliation procedure, however, are not allowed to use peeling agents on their skin because of the risk of the chemicals being absorbed into the bloodstream. It is also a first choice for patients who have excess vellus hair on the skin. This hair often causes a buildup of dirt and oils in the follicles, so removing the hair gives the patient healthier looking skin. Many patients are often concerned that the hair will grow back heavier and darker after dermaplaning. This is not the case. As long as the hair is superficial vellus hair, it will grow back at the same rate and texture as before the treatment.

Removing epidermal skin also allows products to penetrate more readily into the deeper layers. Physicians may recommend this treatment to prepare the skin for medical procedures such as laser treatments or deep chemical peels. It also may be used by estheticians to prepare the skin for superficial chemical peels or before a cleansing facial. Pairing dermaplane with an Oxygen Facial is a patient favorite!

Microdermabrasion or Dermaplaning?

Which is better – microdermabrasion or dermaplaning? We get that question a lot! With a wide variety of exfoliating treatments available, it’s good to know the basic differences between microdermabrasion and dermaplaning. Based on your skin type and desired outcome – this may help you decide.

Both treatments are non-invasive and require no down time; however, there are differences between the two, and based on your skin type – you may not be a candidate for both.

Crystal-Free, Diamond Microdermabrasion is the most common type of microdermabrasion. A vacuum suction wand that is passed over the skin is encrusted with crushed diamonds. This gently removes the superficial layers of dead, dull cells while the light vacuum suction promotes new collagen formation. The result is a brighter, smoother texture with no downtime.

However, microdermabrasion is not for everyone. People with rosacea, broken capillaries, sensitive skin, or skin prone to redness can benefit more from having a dermaplane (while people with active acne are generally better off with neither; it’s usually best to go with a chemical peel).

Dermaplane is another exfoliating treatment that uses a specialized surgical blade to gently scrape away dead surface skin and fine surface hair (or peach fuzz) on the face. This treatment is commonly paired with a light enzyme/chemical peel to enhance results even more – leaving you with smooth radiant skin. With no vacuum suction involved, people with sensitivities will have no redness, irritation or down time. Dermaplaning will not result in any facial hair growing in darker, thicker or faster, and it leaves your skin as smooth as silk!

Either one of these treatments will leave your skin feeling smooth and looking great – especially when paired with a facial! If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us or scroll down to schedule a consultation.
