Liposuction Dr. Nathan Roesner at Aura Advanced Skin Care and Plastic Surgery

Liposuction (aspiration lipectomy), is a body contouring procedure that removes excess fat for a smoother, leaner body. After aging, pregnancy, or weight fluctuations, stubborn, exercise-resistant fat can accumulate around the abdomen. Other areas of the body can also be out of proportion, such as the neck, arms, and thighs. With liposuction, we can remove the excess fat to rebalance your body proportions and improve your body confidence.

Dr. Nathan Roesner at Aura Advanced Skin Care and Plastic Surgery has helped many patients enhance their figures with customizable body contouring procedures. He is a board-certified plastic surgeon who specializes in aesthetic plastic surgery and is well-known for his transformative body treatments.

Before and After Photos

About Liposuction

Liposuction is an effective procedure for removing pockets of excess fat for a smoother appearance. In 2023, specialists performed this effective body contouring procedure more than 347,700 times (1) to help patients sculpt their figures. Even if you exercise regularly and eat a healthy diet, it can be difficult to remove pockets of fat. With liposuction, we can sculpt the abdomen, back, flanks, thighs, upper arms, and chin. The treatment permanently removes excess fat for a more athletic look.

VASERlipo™

VASERlipo™ has been clinically proven to leave you with smoother skin and produce even results. For those who struggle with pockets of excess fat despite exercising regularly and eating a healthy diet, VASERlipo™ can transform your figure. Using minimally invasive and precise ultrasonic energy to dislodge and emulsify the fat cells, VASERlipo™ reduces downtime. The procedure is tissue-selective–meaning it protects other tissues from damage by only targeting fat. Dr. Roesner uses a powerful and delicate technique to target substantial areas of fat.

Liposuction vs Tummy Tuck

Although liposuction can remove pockets of excess fat, it cannot remove droopy skin. If you have excess abdominal skin, we can perform a tummy tuck to remove it. During a tummy tuck, we can also tighten loose abdominal muscles–a condition known as diastasis recti. (2) Removing excess skin can also improve your mobility and reduce back pain. (3) The procedure can sculpt your figure and improve the way your clothing fits. If you have a small amount of excess skin and you would not like to tighten the underlying muscles, we can also perform a mini tummy tuck, which requires a smaller incision.

Benefits

There are several benefits to liposuction, including:

  • Balanced body proportions: We can emphasize your curves and balance your figure by removing bulges of excess fat that are affecting your appearance.
  • Improved mobility: Removing pockets of fat can make exercise easier.
  • Highlighted muscle definition: Removing excess fat can create a more muscular, sculpted appearance.
  • Minimal downtime: Most patients can resume their normal activities after 1-2 weeks.
  • Lasting results from a single procedure: We can treat multiple areas during one procedure.
  • Customizable procedure: We can address small or large fatty deposits depending on your needs.
  • Smoother skin: Since we remove the pockets of fat with gentle suction, we can also perform the treatment in delicate areas such as the arms and neck.
  • Increased self-esteem: A smoother, younger-looking body can improve the way you feel about yourself.
  • Better fitting clothing: Many patients find that removing excess fat can help their clothing fit better so they can enjoy a smoother figure.

Candidates

Liposuction Dr. Nathan Roesner at Aura Advanced Skin Care and Plastic Surgery

Candidates must be in good health and have realistic expectations about the outcome of the surgery. Liposuction is not a treatment for obesity or a substitute for proper diet and exercise. Liposuction is also not a treatment for intra-abdominal fat (the fat inside your body around your organs).

You may not be a candidate for surgery if you smoke, have recently quit smoking, or if you are exposed to second-hand smoke. Primary and secondary smoking decreases blood flow to the body’s tissues. This can result in prolonged wound healing, skin loss, infection, increased scarring, and several other complications depending on the kind of procedure performed.

Personal Consultation

In some cases, liposuction is used in conjunction with other procedures, such as a facelift, breast reduction, breast lift, or a tummy tuck. We will need to discuss your medical history, aesthetic goals, and current medications. Dr. Roesner will perform a complete physical examination and discuss possible risks and complications of the procedure.

You will have the opportunity to discuss your goals and the results you would like to achieve. Your surgeon will work with you to reach an understanding of what you can expect from this procedure and the long-term benefits you will experience. Every patient is different, and your surgeon will choose the surgical technique and treatment plan that is right for you.

Preparation

We will provide specific instructions about how to prepare for your surgery, including guidelines on eating, drinking, and smoking. We can also let you know which vitamins and medications should be taken or avoided. You will need to arrange for someone to drive you home after your surgery and make arrangements for someone to care for you after you have the procedure. You will also need to avoid sun exposure to protect your skin from damage before the appointment.

Procedure

You will remain comfortable throughout the entire procedure. In most hospital cases, your anesthesiologist will place you under general anesthesia. Local anesthesia with or without sedation is also an option for patients who are unable to receive general anesthesia.

Dr. Roesner will mark your skin for surgery and make a small incision to access the fatty tissue and infuse it with tumescent fluid. In some cases, these incisions are so small that they do not require post-operative stitches. He will use a cannula to remove the excess fat with gentle suction. Dr. Roesner will evaluate your skin tone and elasticity, as well as fat density and distribution to determine the appropriate technique for your individual case.

After Your Surgery

After the procedure, you will need someone to drive you home and care for you for 1-2 days. It is important to get plenty of rest and follow a balanced diet to support your body during your recovery. You will need to follow up with the office after 7-10 days to have your incisions removed. It is also important that you keep your skin clean and avoid soaking in hot tubs. You will be discharged from the hospital/office wearing a pressure garment over the treated area.

Most patients will need to wear pressure garments consistently for 6 weeks. You will be able to shower after 24-48 hours, and we recommend adding more protein to your diet and limiting salt intake. You will need to take medication as prescribed and refrain from drinking alcohol for 3 weeks. You will need to avoid physical activities for approximately 10 days, and avoid unprotected exposure of the scars to the sun for at least 12 months. Always use a strong sunblock to protect your skin, if sun exposure is unavoidable (SPF 30 or greater).

Results

After liposuction, you can enjoy a smoother body and beautiful results. Many patients notice that their clothing fits better, and they have a slimmer appearance. Since the procedure removes fat cells permanently, you can enjoy long-lasting results. You must take good care of your body and maintain a stable weight. Eating healthy meals and exercising regularly can help you maintain your results.

The Cost of Liposuction in Boulder
